La journée à Knokke - A day in Knokke

Last Saturday, Finla of the blog My Kitchen Treasures invited Marion of the blog Crumble & Cassonade to spend the day at her place in Knokke a coastal town in Belgium. Finla is one of my first and faithful readers – even at the time when my blog was only in French and she could not understand much (google translation helped by it could get quite surrealistic at times :-D). So, when we met, of course, we got along well immediately. We had so many aspects of our lives and our hobbies in common!

Getting back to our Saturday, Marion, Tara and I took the train to Knokke. The train was crowded – the weatherman announced wonderful weather and one would have thought that half of Brussels wanted to spend the day at the sea-side on that day. Well, we soon arrived and Finla was waiting for us at the station. As soon as we arrived at her place, we had wonderful smells wafting from the kitchen. Shyama, Finla’s daughter went for a walk in town with Tara. And, as usual, we started chitchatting. Soon Finla proposed a drink and made us this super strong “screwdriver” (vodka and orange juice).

Then came lunch! What a lunch! We ate chiken tikka masala, dal (lentils with potatoes), green bean thoran (with coconut), a paneer (Indian cheese) curry, an aubergine curry, two pickles, dried yoghurt chilli, raita, papadoms, all washed down with a nice rosé wine.

After this magnificent spread, we had to go out for a walk in town. On the way, we stopped a nice kitchen ware store where I got myself a few things (of course)! Then we got back to have dessert – a choice of cakes selected by Shyama.

I spent an excellent day and I thank Finla and Shyama. We promised to have other meets more often.
